"Haunted" a poem

I loved you then

I love you still

At this rate

I always will

I've tried to purge you

From my mind

Dig you out

To leave behind

But somehow

Some way

You manage to stay

Carved onto me

Like names etched on a tree

Following as a shadow

Hovering like a cloud

At times you're but a whisper

At times your memory cries aloud

I turn my back

Only to find

You've entrenched yourself

Into every crevice of my mind

Perhaps I should make peace

With this ghost

From which there seems no release

So pull up a chair

I know you'll be there

Catch a nap or read a book

While I flounder as a fish

Confounded by a hook.
