Father

Do I sense your eyes?

High above the topaz sky

Gently watching down

With the gleaming eyes of a Father

Upon this cursed & earthly ground?

And how will you find it here?

Shall you beam with pride?

To see me try with all my might-

To be better

To be stronger

Than I’ve been before.

Or shall I disappoint my dearest one?

A broken shell on humanity’s shore?

Strewn about with the trash

That pollutes our gem in space,

A problem rather than a solution

In this disillusioned place?

See me-

A tried & seasoned soldier

A tired & weathered soul

And find me worthy.

Find me at peace-

You don’t go fault finding,

Nor my imperfections see.

Grateful,

That’s what I am.

For what else should I be?

His eyes,

His gaze,

His strong arm,

And gentle grace-

May they look on me.
