Father

Do I sense your eyes?

High above the topaz sky

Gently watching down

With the gleaming eyes of a Father

Upon this cursed & earthly ground?

And how will you find it here?

Shall you beam with pride?

To see me try with all my might-

To be better

To be stronger

Than I’ve been before.

Or shall I disappoint my dearest one?

A broken shell on humanity’s shore?

Strewn about with the trash

That pollutes our gem in space,

A problem rather than a solution

In this disillusioned place?

See me-

A tried & seasoned soldier

A tired & weathered soul

And find me worthy.

Find me at peace-

You don’t go fault finding,

Nor my imperfections see.

Grateful,

That’s what I am.

For what else should I be?

His eyes,

His gaze,

His strong arm,

And gentle grace-

May they look on me.

Gambling Man

Bless his soul

He tried so hard

He hedged his bets

And held the card

Close to chest

Hopeful gleam in his eye

Giving him away

A loser

Once again

Such a lonely angry man-

Bless his soul.

A Bitch of a Haiku.

Easy does it, Dear

I’d step carefully round here,

You see life’s a bitch.

Homicidal Tendencies.

There was a boy I used to know

But now his flowers no longer grow

I mowed them down

And broke his crown-

He had it coming don’t you know?

Genetics Suck.

My dear precious boy

How innocent we begin!

On the universes coattails

From babes to men-

Have I cursed you child?

Set up such hurdles in your path?

Lit the match

To burn it all down

From mountains to ash-

Have I given you these shoes to fill

That fit us both so well?

An invitation I’ve extended

To our private hell-

Invite a friend

If they can

Walk the embers on which we stand

Do I bear the brunt of this?

My dear precious man.

With Fresh Eyes.

As dew abounds fresh on the ground

My gaze on you is new-

When did your eyes become so bright?

Your smile so beguiling?

Under cover of night

Hidden by Moon’s tapestry of stars

You blossomed to be

Something so lovely to me!

Soft as the petals

That tantalize the bees

Rare as the rose in the thorns

Precious as the spring rains

To thirsty seeded ground-

When did this burning beauty

Kiss your delicate lips?

Oh to catch a sunset!

Its fingertips painting evening sky

So you are to me my love

I cannot say goodbye!

Promise me that you will stay

Will I find you in morning’s light?

I see you today

I see you with open eyes this night-

Yes

I see you-

And I never wish to close my eyes again.

Denise

Could I be as sure as you?

Have my smile and carry through?

Knowing all that lay ahead?

With gratitude not bitter dread?

For I have always seen that cup

Empty more than full side up

Should I my humor find

And not leave it on the path behind?

I cannot nor do I desire

To go this journey alongside you

But I will stay beside you should you tire-

I hope my prayers might muster up

A bit of hope

Strength from love-

You are not alone.
